Fiber Optic Plant Engineer

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Other duties may be assigned.

Devise plans for construction of communications cables and electronics.

Prepare and publish detailed documents for telecommunication infrastructure that include required routes, circuit/pair assignments, complete as-built documentation and associated CAD details.

Develop, document, and present procedural documentation for the team and other technical staff.

Maintain charts and records showing location of all telecommunications cable, loop electronics and network equipment.

Review completed orders and update all records. (CAD, SDP)

Prepare bid sheets and contracts for construction and facilities acquisition.

Ensure that standards and policies are being followed for safety, installation, modification, quality control, testing, operating procedure, inspection, cut sheets, and maintenance of equipment.

Negotiate and document right-of-way for the placement of telecommunications cable and loop electronics with private individuals and government agencies.

REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Associate’s degree in Telecommunications Engineering or electrical engineering or related field with a minimum of four years of related experience in telecommunications system design, network system infrastructure on currently utilized technology, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Thorough understanding of telecommunications outside plant construction and maintenance, excellent organizational and planning skills, and five years experience with computer aided design.

Experience in the design of twisted pair, fiber optic systems as related to, customer premise, and structured cabling systems and inside plant telecommunication facilities.

Demonstrated experience determining project objectives and requirements, anticipating and solving problems, and developing standards and guidelines.

Experience in engineering and construction projects to include responsibility for scheduling and budget.

Computer proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.

PREFERRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications Engineering or related technology field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
