Dressing casual on Fridays pays off for nine area fire departments. Earlier this week, area volunteer fire departments each received a $500 donation in appreciation for the volunteer services they provide the community. This donation, courtesy of AcenTek, was literally collected one dollar at a time as a result of the Casual Day Fund. The technology company, headquartered in Houston, offers their office employees the opportunity to donate $1 every Friday in return for the option of wearing jeans. That money is then matched by the company and the donations are then awarded annually to local volunteer-based organizations.
There are many deserving organizations in this area so AcenTek rotates through a list of fire departments, libraries and EMS organizations to donate to. This year the Casual Day Funds were awarded to the Hokah, Houston, Canton, Ridgeway and Nodine fire departments in Minnesota and in Iowa, to the Ossian, Harpers Ferry and Waterville fire departments.
“We are fortunate to live in communities where there are people willing to donate their time to keeping us safe. These volunteer firefighters deserve our thanks, and our support. I’m proud of our employees for recognizing this, and giving back to the communities that AcenTek serves. Our gratitude goes out to these brave individuals who serve on all the area fire departments,” says Todd Roesler, AcenTek’s CEO.
Each department awarded the donation expressed extreme gratitude, commenting that there is no shortage to their list of needs to run a fire department in a small town. The comment echoed in each town was that the donation would most likely go toward needed equipment or replacing existing equipment.
