ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES/JOB TASKS
|
1. 25% |
Support, grow, and maintain network applications, according to AcenTek and industry standards for the purpose of providing reliable and high-quality services to AcenTek Subscribers. Tasks may include support, maintain, and configure VoIP Soft Switch, Session Boarder Controllers, and VoIP application servers; support, maintain, and configure Video Head-End equipment, middleware, and encryption servers; support, maintain, and configure Internet DHCP servers, PE routers and BNG equipment; troubleshoot and support wholesale video, voice, and internet services from third party providers; respond to raised alarms according to company protocol and provide resolution along with outage feedback when appropriate; create and update documents and procedures that aid in maintaining network applications. Monitored by the Network Operations Supervisor via direct observation and reporting.

Respond to service orders, repair tickets, and questions for the purpose of installing, changing, or repairing network access and network applications. Tasks may include the installation and repair of the following network elements: ethernet circuits for AcenTek customers and ISP related services, fixed wireless and wireless point to point networks, subscriber access networks and circuits including Ethernet, GPOn, xDSL; customer premise equipment (CPE) including optical terminals, xDSL modems, Ethernet, and wireless access equipment; managing customer network solutions. Other level three support tasks may include: update subscriber account and plant records, response and closing of work tickets, perform CPE software upgrades, communication with customers, internal departments, and contractors to ensure satisfactory results regarding the installation and repair of subscriber services. Monitored by the Network Operations Supervisor via direct observation, departmental feedback, and daily reports/logs.

Maintain network infrastructure for the purpose of ensuring a reliable, high-quality network where high speed, low latency applications can be delivered. Tasks may include repair and replace failed hardware and performs software upgrades on network elements; maintain core transport networks including Ethernet, MPLS, SONET, DWDM and TDM; maintain proper route infrastructure via OSPF and BGP, as well as maintaining external eBGP and peering relationships with partners; maintain network access equipment including DSLAM, ethernet, and passive optical network elements; maintain customer Access Platforms including xDSL, GPON, Active Fiber, Fixed Wireless, T1, POTS, and VoIP; Maintain DC power plant including batteries, rectifiers, inverters, associated cabling and distribution systems; respond to raised alarms according to company protocol and provide resolution along with outage feedback when appropriate; create and update documents and procedures that aid in maintaining network infrastructure. Monitored by the Network Operations Supervisor via alarming, direct observation and departmental feedback.

4. 20% Install and configure network infrastructure and application elements for the purpose of improving existing deployments and meeting company build out goals. The tasks for this essential job function will be performed while adhering to company and industry standards and remain within the scope of the project. These tasks include installation and configuration of the following network elements: IP Routers and Ethernet switches, Video Head End Equipment and Software, MPLS/IP, Ethernet, DWDM, SONET, and TDM transport nodes, telephone switching hardware and software, DC power plant-including batters, rectifiers, inverters, and distribution systems and network monitoring equipment. Other tasks may include creating documentation relative to the new network design, configuration, circuit tracking and standards adherence. Monitored by the Network Operations Supervisor via departmental feedback and direct observation.

Research and develop new applications and network infrastructure for the purpose of improving network performance and expanding service offerings. Tasks may include researching design concepts and operational facts of new applications through formal training and/or self-study and field trials; Interface with internal departments, vendors, and customers who may contribute to the overall design; implement new network designs, equipment and applications in a lab environment and verifying their performance and suitability for deployment; Document design and configuration procedures in order to deploy these new elements in a production network. Monitored by the Network Operations Supervisor via lab reports.

(Continually looks for new and improved ways of completing the above functions. Other tasks as assigned by supervisor will be performed in order to address unexpected situations or needs that may arise.)

RESPONSIBILITIES: This position offers the highest level of support for all AcenTek services. It is crucial to maintain high network availability and minimal down time. The position is responsible for implementing the company’s strategy for using/developing technology resources, and ensuring technologies are used efficiently, profitably, and securely. It requires a solid understanding of OSPF and BGP and how it relates to the AcenTek network and our external peers. Position is also responsible for clear communication within and across departments, problem solving within a team and independently, and utilizing negotiation, persuasion, and diplomacy internally and externally with vendors. |

LATITUDE: Most duties are assigned then performer plans and arranges tasks to complete duties. Problem solving requires extensive knowledge (industry or technical). Most decisions not affecting other departments can be made independently in accordance with company policy. All purchase requests are referred to supervisor. |
|
IMPACT OF POSITION: Successful completion of essential job tasks protects the company’s technological resources, issues, and changes, improves cost effectiveness, and ensures quality products, services, and customer satisfaction. Errors may have a significant adverse effect on external relationships and result in a loss of customers. Errors may result in substantial monetary effect, could result in liability, and affect operating costs. Duties involve the preparation of data of which management bases important decisions. Errors could cause improper utilization of labor, material, or equipment. |

CUSTOMER SERVICE/INTERACTION: Daily phone, personal, and some written contact with employees within the company to complete work tasks, scheduling, delegating and prioritizing work schedules, checking status/progress, and obtaining or sharing information. Daily personal and written contact with all departments to ensure work is done timely and projects managed effectively. Weekly contact with vendors and customers to maintain relations. |

ESSENTIAL SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS: |

EDUCATION: Required: High School Diploma or GED Preferred: associate or bachelor’s degree in network operations, Telecommunications, or a related field. |
